Fält Communications will take part in the 3G test bed Digital Network Umeå, DNU, which is planned to be set up in Umeå in May 2003.
DNU will test broadband services and mobile services in 3G networks focusing on telemedicine, e-learning, household services and community services. Ongoing projects concerns services for community access 24h/day, for example the possibility to apply for childrens daycare via the Internet.
The test population consists of about 27 000 households with access to the city network and about 25 000 students with access to the university network.
The principal organisation behind the DNU project is the Center for IT in Northern Sweden, CINS. DNU is one of total eight test beds in Sweden that are set up with the aim that they will become levers for growth in the regions and in Sweden in general.
The server platform MIIPS will be able to be used as platform for communication over the 3G network. Thanks to MIIPS modular design it is possible to, as soon as the network is up and running, connect a 3G unit to MIIPS for quick and easy transfer of high speed data and services over the network.
